1. Re: save for web--not enough memory
NotInUse Nov 11, 2008 3:03 PM (in response to alan ruta)That's a HUGE file for an animated GIF. You are far surpassing what gifs are designed to do. Or rather, you're surpassing what Photoshop is designed to do. Sounds like for something that size you should be exporting to an mpg or using Flash. -

Neil_Keller Nov 11, 2008 4:29 PM (in response to alan ruta)Exactly -- this is not what animated .gifs were designed to do.

4. Re: save for web--not enough memory
alan ruta Nov 11, 2008 8:41 PM (in response to alan ruta)I just wanted smooth transitions from one image to the next. The person I'm making the site for specifically asked me not to use flash. Is my next best option an mpeg?
I was afraid an mpeg would take too long to render, i.e. draw on a web page. -
5. Re: save for web--not enough memory
NotInUse Nov 11, 2008 11:13 PM (in response to alan ruta)No web site should have a 960x681 animation unless it's done in Flash. Even an mpeg would require a large download on the part of the user.
Depending upon what you are trying to accomplish, you may be able to simply use single images and utilize scripts just as jquery or scriptaculous (Google for them) to add fading transitions between the images. This will DRASTICALLY cut down on page load. I'd absolutely never build any site with an animated gif that large. -
6. Re: save for web--not enough memory
Wade S Zimmerman Nov 11, 2008 11:56 PM (in response to alan ruta)Well if you want to do this then probably the best way would either be After Effects which exports animated gifs.
I was under the impression that PS could only do a 500 frame animation. Or maybe that is a movie clip.
If After Effects is too much for you then the other alternative in the Adobe Suites would be Fireworks.
I would think Fireworks would be best. As it is design to optimized for the web much more so than PS. Watch the tutorial on animation and it is not difficult at all. -

>The person I'm making the site for specifically asked me not to use flash.
But what's his/her problem with Flash? It is a common Web convention that works quite well.
And, yes, I think Fireworks would be the app to create this in.

8. Re: save for web--not enough memory
Jim or Marion Jordan Nov 12, 2008 8:02 AM (in response to alan ruta)If this is what I think it is, I would not even recommend Flash. This is probably not an animation project for any Adobe app (unless you use the slideshow function in Fireworks).
>I just wanted smooth transitions from one image to the next.
Google for a javascript slideshow that uses an array of JPEG images (or use the slideshow function in Fireworks (commands menu->create slideshow)). -

alan ruta Nov 12, 2008 10:45 AM (in response to alan ruta)Lets assume for now I want to use a flash video. Is there an easy way to convert a quicktime movie to a flash video?
While I don't own flash I do have a 30 day demo that I have downloaded and can use.

Curlyq_SC Dec 1, 2008 7:07 PM (in response to alan ruta)I'm also having the same issue trying to save PS project as a dithered gif. I have 315 frames and image size of 982x320. However, when there were 170 frames, it saves successfully. Is there any other recommendation besides removing frames? -
