There may be a better way. But, is there an issue with adding extra pixels to the dimensions of the new document so it conforms to the size of the old?

(progress) Jun 10, 2008 7:17 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)you want to keep some extra but not? i dont follow... drag the old layers into the new document to retain big data, or crop once their in to lose it. -

jpro2007 Jun 10, 2008 7:25 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)right. The excess image data is still there, unless you select all and use the crop command.
the crop tool itself can be set to hide or delete, so it can work either way.
try this: drag a layer from a file with a large canvas into a file with a small canvas. Now look at the Image menu, and pull down to Reveal All. This should reveal the entire content of the layer from the larger canvas document. -

lister110@hotmail.com Jun 16, 2008 7:04 AM (in response to lister110@hotmail.com)Well,
basically I have multiple layers pulled in from other psds all various sizes. The overall file size is quite large now. I may have to blow up one layers which then leaves a lot more excess ff the psd canvas.
So I would like to trim this layer a little (if I select the layer and transform, the boundary is very large.
By cropping this layer but not too the canvas size I can loose some of the layer information but allow for some position adjustments if needed ie more on top or bottom.
This all helps my overall file size.
I hope this makes sense..
