Is this still going to be broken in CS5. I have pretty much been forced use CS3 now for the entire life cycle of CS4 because of this issue, and it has it's own bugs (doesn't automatically save actions, editing an action with save file steps causes a fault on next image load etc. etc.) but at least it prints most of the time.
It would be nice if for the price of the upgrade to CS5 (a) the features that currently work aren't crippled in the new version and (b) if some existing features are broken they are actually fixed sometime during the life of the product.
I did some testing with CS5 and it looks like the print from action bug was fixed, but apparently in merging what was previously two print dialogs into one they broke it again and now setting number of prints to more than one has no effect most of the time. Four or five times I specified 2 or three prints and it ignored me, both when opening a file and printing directly from the menu (did anyone mention you still can't print from Bridge?) and also printing from within an action. Finally I opened a file and printed it twice from the menu and of course six prints came out.
Maybe the Adobe team could divert just a tiny fraction of the immense resources they are devoting to whiz-bang features and make sure that the simple stuff that professional photographers like myself depend on actually works correctly!
1. When I specify n in the number of prints box n prints should be printed.
2. There should be a rotate to fit button alongside the landscape/portrait button.
3. There should be a print file option on the Bridge menu or a button to print without having to open a file in Photoshop.
None of these things would have been particularly newsworthy in version 1.0. That they're still not there in version 12 is stunning. Explain to me again why I have to pay $199 to get one bug fixed, but an even more important feature crippled, and a high probability that like the previous time I'm going to have to wait 18 months for the next fix.

That's a Windows issue, and we're trying to work with Microsoft to solve or work around it. It only affects older printer drivers (pre-Vista/Win7).
It's good to hear you know about it. You're right in that I'm using Windows 7 x64 (x32 version of Photoshop since that's the only one supported by my plugins) but the printer driver is supposed to be W7 x64 updated - i.e. the Windows 7 driver from this page
Lightroom 3 on the same computer (Windows 7 x64) and the same printer (Sony UP-DR150) had no problems at all printing or specifying number of prints. Maybe the Photoshop and Lightroom teams could share some of the knowledge of how to make this work.
The 2 teams are working together. But Lightroom is still using older APIs for printing.
The problem is with the new print APIs and older printer drivers.
