Anybody know what are the internal differences between project "editing modes" such as "Desktop" and "HDV 1080P30". Obviously one could create a "Desktop" project with all the same settings as "HDV 1080P30". But in our tests of CS3, there seem to be some significant differences in performance. We were wondering if different editing modes correspond to different internal rendering engines or some such.
I'm surprised that nobody knows anything about the editing modes. I can't even figure out what purpose they serve over and above project settings generally. In seems like in the Desktop editing mode you can choose any settings you want. Why would anyone use any other mode?
Adobe has most likely optimized the programming for certain modes. For example, the DV AVI mode prevents a problem with writing back to tape as does the HDV mode, but more important, I believe that the program recognizes what it does, and does not have to render in order to achieve a real-time playback.
