    MPEG-4 audio drop

I am using Premier Pro CS3 on Windows XP system and was asked to edit 4 mini DVDs from a school event. I converted the VOB files with TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress into avi files, but so large made PP run very slow. I then converted to MPEG-4 and I imported that into PP. However when it gets around 8-12 minuets into the video the audio drops out completely. I have checked the original, and there are no audio problems. Is there a setting that I am over looking? They all seem to kill the audio at around the same time. Thanks for your help, Brian
