How to rectify A/V sync issues on tapes with broken time code?

I stripe all the tapes I record, but I edit a lot of videos that come from people who have broken timecode on their miniDV tapes. So when I capture their tapes, the A/V sync is way off. My workaround is to manually capture clips but some tapes have lots of broken timecode. I always tell clients how to stripe tapes, but I have so many new ones that come in with this problem.

Is there any device that would act almost like a digital TBC that would continue capturing *something* so I don't lose sync?

      I use a Canon GL2 or a Sony VX2000 as a deck for capture.
