If the director want FCP, use FCP. Yes, you can export an EDL, but if the director likes to look over the shoulder of the editor, why piss him off?
can that edl be imported into an avid?
as for pissing the director off, I'm the producer the film has a small budget and he wants to spend 75% of it on hiring the camera equipment this is before we have paid for any thing else, so it means something has to give!
Well if you're the producer (guy whose paying for it) and the editor (guy whose doing the editing), who cares what the director wants you to use? It ain't his money, it ain't his time.
Use Premiere the whole way if you please.

I have never exported an EDL to be used in Avid. If anyone here has, speak up. Otherwise check over in the Creative Cow forum where there are lots of Pros who probably have done so.
