I always purchase Western Digital drives. In 2005 I purchased 250GB "Caviar SE" drives and in 2007 250GB "Caviar SE 16" drives (for editing). The latter SR 16 ones have 16MB buffer cache whereby the original SR ones have only 8MB buffer cache. I will be purchasing a new 1 Terabyte drive which will allow for the re-use one of these drives for the boot OS drive on my new system. Normally I would simply use the Caviar SR 16 drive but I notices these drives heat up a lot while the SR ones remain generally cool. What should I use? The cool SR 8 cool one or the SR 16 toaster oven? Somehow I get the feeling its a tradeoff between heat vs Buffer memory. Which one should I pick?
