I hear good things about editing P2 media.
Capturing HDV from a tape does not have to be rendered. Where did you get that?
Your P4 will struggle with HD
As Jim said - no problems with P2 (DVCProHD)
I have been editing HD with Premiere for over a year now and it works if your system is up to spec.
Quad core is the way to go.... :-)
P2 meaning Premiere 2. I have Premiere Pro 3. DVDProHD is this another HD format? Does this capture footage easier?
Can I capture in that format with this camera?
With my specs is there a way to capture HD footage at a samller dimensions for desktop/web applcations?
P2 as in mxf files.
Google "Panasonic P2"

No. Dimension is changed on export/encode
Why do people always want to escape the facts of editing HD...
It bothers me somewhat, always looking to sneak past the system somehow. It does not work.
Capture/transfer HD properly and buy more hard drives if needs be.
Actually I don't mind buying new HDs btw I just don't want to invest in a the canon HV30 (which is right for my needs) if I can't edit on my computer specs.
The Panasonic P2 I looked up but it is all high end camcorders. there consumer camcorders is the same as Canon and Sony the AVCHD format which in that case I am better off with the original camcorder HV30.
so with my system your saying I would be dropping frames and playback after rendering/editing would be problematic still.
