akribie Jul 5, 2008 4:38 AM (in response to (Alexander_Schlicker))You can capture from a live feed via FireWire if that is what you mean. You do not need to go to tape first. -

the_wine_snob Jul 5, 2008 6:47 AM (in response to (Alexander_Schlicker))Alexander,
You can use a video screen capture utility to do this. Check that the one you choose can Export as DV-AVI. You can also set up a miniDV camera to shoot the screen, while the video is playing. Remember to not be critical of the resulting image. It will not be THAT good.
Google for a capture utility, or look in these forums, as many have been discussed in great detail. A lot of posters here, use them for tutorial creation, so there is a lot of experience. Go back up the forum hierarchy one level, to get all Premiere fora, and do a Search. Try terms like: "screen capture," "Camtasia" [SP?].

Do you think I will lose information about the video if I do a screen capture? Since the Screen capture Records the movie as it is presented in my exclusive OS setting and environment. Thanks -

the_wine_snob Jul 6, 2008 6:27 AM (in response to (Alexander_Schlicker))Alexander,
By this, do you mean, "will the quality suffer?"
If you were to compare a scene filmed to miniDV camera, transfered to the computer via IEEE-1394 as AVI, compared to the same footage, converted to MPG-2, played in WMP and captured to AVI, then yes.
Give us the capture/transfer descriptions, formats used and the workflow, and it would be easier to give you a definitive answer.
