A single HD is not helping.
What is your media and what are you exporting?
At those write speeds, it's very likely not hurting either.
Generally speaking, the most effective way to speed up rendering is to buy a faster processor. Adding memory might help, but not nearly as much. Depending on the effects used, a powerful graphics card might also help some, but again not nearly as much as a new CPU.
Speed of the hard driver will will help a lot. If the cpu has all the speed to compute but the hdd is not capable of writing it down the render will be even slower. One HDD for video system is not enough.
Speed of the hard drive will NOT help very much during heavy renders, if at all.
