Thanks for the link. I used GSpot and it told me this:
Code: DIB (_RGB)
Name: BI_RGB Raw Bitmap
Status: No Codec Required
Where should I go from here?
I used (or rather, tried to use) the Ulead DV Converter.
Assuming your Handicam is compatible, recapture with PP. If not, use Google to find a suitable converter to convert to DV AVI type2.
Those are uncompressed .avi files. What are the file sizes on disk? DV is 13 GB/hour, or about a GB every 5 minutes.
What is the model of your Handicam? Is it a DVD or hard drive camcorder?
What video and audio settings did you use in the Sony software when you captured the video?
I tried to recapture with PP but it couldn't recognize my device.
The files are about 3 or so GB (3,000,000 KB) each, varying.
I think its a DCR-HC42, Sony Camcorder. It records to a mini-tape.
I just used the default settings and didn't change anything at all.
Oh and sorry I didn't mention this earlier, but I have Windows XP.
Oh, and also I'm using a free trial version of PP.

At least you are not alone in not knowing what camera you use. Follow the instructions in the Sony manual and the PP manual for capturing, using firewire.
>I just used the default settings and didn't change anything at all.
But we don't know what those settings are; you have to tell us. Both video and audio, please.
Oh I think I got it! I used DVdate to convert the clips. It was the third converter program I tried and it finally worked. Now the full clip imports into PP.
Thank you so much for all the help! It was much appreciated.
Good for you, Linda. Thanks for posting back with your solution.
