Set me straight on 5.1 Surround Mixes

Okay, I've pretty much mastered setting 5.1 channels and doing a 5.1 mix, but I have some questions:

1- My sound board (realtech) supports 5.1 output, and I have a 5.1 speaker array hooked up to the sound board (which works fine when I run a test on it), but I can't seem to monitor my 5.1 mix. That is, I can only hear the front speaker stereo part of the mix. Is there a way to monitor my 5.1 mix?

2- My understanding is that in order to output a 5.1 mix, I need to have Minnetonka SurCode installed on my computer. Is that correct? I do have SurCod installed, but I have no idea how to make it work with my Premiere audio channels (unfortuantely, I did not purchase it through the link provided in Premiere, so I don't know if the version you purchase by that method has some sort of integration with Premiere; in any event, I have a stand alone version of SurCode and need to figure out how to make it work with Premiere -- the SurCode documentation is a bit sparse).
