Downconvert in the A1 camera to dv, this wil give you widescreen but with some scaling this will fit just fine in a 4:3 project.
The A1 can still shoot in DV mode. Use that to keep things even across the board.
I recently used a XH-A1 in SDV format to be consistent with my GL-1 and VX2000. This worked fine with the exception that the A1 has different colors. For the first time in about 8 years, I'm learning color correction. That's a good thing, ordinarily, but bad when I'm trying to get out 3 marching band competitions in less than 6 weeks.
That said, I haven't been brave enough to try 16:9 on the three cameras... yet. I plan to very soon. But I LOVE the XH-A1 and the presets on the camera will help me take care of the color problem. I'm just trying to decide whether I want to do it when I shoot or when I edit.
