Actually its not the pasting to the timeline that makes the video appear, its after recording and then giving the recorded clip a name. Then video appears. (if thats any help)
I have an AMD Athlon 64 1.85 Gigahertz processor, Windows XP SP2, with 2 Gig memory, Nvidia GeForce FX5500 display adapter,
Panasonic DVC-30 camera
I'm storing and capturing all video on a second hard drive, SATA.
I'm using two monitors in the editing process. (Hmmmmph)
I might take my camera to a friends house that also has CS3 and see if the problem stays with the camera or with my PC set-up.
I'll go through and check out those items in the TRoubleshooting link. It will take a while, but is probably a good idea even if it does not yield results for this particular problem. ie disconnect the other portable drives, defrag the drives. etc.
Video preview of HDV material is not supported.
Oh I forgot to mention that I'm doing HD.
So, now I need to go back and make sure that somewhere its not defaulted to HD.
I'm confused. The DVC30 doesn't do any kind of HD.
By the way, I also had issues with this camera using CS3. My DVC80 worked fine, but not the 30. Never figured out why, though.
Darn! + double DARN!
Proof read always!!!!!!
I meant to say: "Oh I forgot to mention that I'm NOT doing HD".
Sorry to be confusing. Thanks for pointing that out.
Guess I better make that test on my friend's system.
Today, I tried a Sony camera and CS3 captured and showed video just fine. So, Panasonic DVC-30 works fine with PP 1.5 but not CS3.
Until I can get Adobe to fix this bug in CS3 I wonder if there's any thing wrong with capturing all clips into PP 1.5 then importing them to CS3.

Nope, you can capture anywhere, a good capture is just a
of the footage.
I spent some time on phone with the Adobe tech and tried many things to troubleshoot this problem. Yes, there is a quirk with this camera (Panasonic DVC-30)and Adobe CS3. Finally, my dual display setup was changed to single view and the problem went away. I am now able to have video preview during the initial capture.
