It went where you told Premiere to put it with the Scratch disk settings. It's very possible it wasn't saved due to the crash.
This is why I recommend recording to DV tape, or CD, or some other non-computer, consumer electronics recording device. Then get that onto the hard drive afterwards. This way you always have a "hard copy" original if you ever need it (such as in situations like this).
Did you name the file?, a file search might help. can you recover via the backup copies you regiliously keep, or should. Perhaps check the auto-save's to see if it's there.
Thanks for your help - I was able to find the file in the scratch disk. For some reason, windows search and Rucuva didn't pick it up

Auto save only relates to a project file. Media files are not involved.
