    PP Pro CS3 Download Problems

    Nigel_Smith
Of the 5 download packages, two of the links (for Premiere Pro CS3 Content and Encore CS3 Content) don't lead to file downloads - one takes me to a page trying to SELL me the package I have already bought!

No serial numbers available either at present. It says contact Customer Services. I did, they can't help. Thinks the Serial Numbers might "appear" sometime in the next few days.

So I guess I won't be installing the products even when/if I can download them. Pathetic.............

Anyone else having problems or is it just me?

OK, 4 packages downloaded OK, but the last one is giving "Error - Target File is locked by another program". I get 2 filenames in Adobe Download Manager and this error occurs twice.

          Still no serial numbers.

          Wot a shambles :(

I finally got the files downloaded, but am on hold with Customer Service regarding the serial numbers. At least I'm not alone. I also had problems downloading on Vista. Two of the files that require the downloader kept telling me to relog in to download them. Thankfully I had an XP laptop that I could download on, but you'd think Adobe would have fully tested this process... :)

Yep, same thing here, DLed, tried to install, no SN, Called CS and got the sorry route. When I asked if there was a manager/supervisor to register that I could register my dissatisfaction with she stated that she had already logged the complaint. She was very nice and sounded like this type of call was all she was getting.

I pre-ordered the product a few months ago.

On July 2nd I got an email telling me "Your Download is Now Available"

I downloaded the 5 files and contacted local customer support for the serial numbers as instructed. They told me that I downloaded a trial version and there is no serial number. I said no, I paid full charges for the product. They said the serial numbers will not be issued until the end of the month but it is a fully functional version for 30 days.

This was not mentioned in any of the correspondence. This is just another adobe stuff-up.

But the above info was not easy to get. On the Adobe customer support site there is a link to 'international support' (I am in Australia).

So I click on it and it takes me to something totally different than customer support. Then I go to north america customer support and there is also a link to international support so I click that and it shows me a list of international contact numbers and I note there is a telephone number for australia...

                Australia +44 207 365 0733 +31 20 582 0800

but this is not an australian telephone number requiring international dialing.

I ring the number and get a recorded message telling me the office hours are 8 am to 8pm; I was ringing at 10.30AM!!!!!!! Why have a specific number for Australia if the phones are only answered in north america time?

If Adobe was running the 'war on terror' the world would be doomed!

So far, thats my biggest complaint. For all of the hype they have given this since the inital announcement, you would think Adobe would have had this crap tested and ready to go.

From trial downloads not working for ANY release, to paid downloads only being trials with NO serials, surely NO ONE at Adobe knows what they are doing. Not exactly making me feel safe and secure on depending on them for my business needs.

Im going to cancel my order since they havent processed it yet and wait for real trial downloads. If they cant handle something as simple as shipping and downloads, then Im not real convinced on the quality of coding.

Well Patrick it only gets worse.
I tried to instal Encore CS3. I got the following error...

"A problem occurred while extracting the archive. Please try downloading the Adobe Encore CS3 again."

So I downloaded it again; took over an hour and then tried to instal it. Guess what?

"A problem occurred while extracting the archive. Please try downloading the Adobe Encore CS3 again."

So I downloaded it yet again; another hour and then tried to instal it. You guess it!

"A problem occurred while extracting the archive. Please try downloading the Adobe Encore CS3 again."

So I am downloading it a fourth time; another hour... ho hum... not feeling very confident.

                    > Im going to cancel my order since they havent processed it

So we can do that yeah? I guess so as its only a trial version and will expire. I think I will invest the money in another FCP license.

So, all now downloaded OK. Can't confirm whether Encore download is damaged, since I WON'T be installing these products until I get a Serial Number. They have charged me for the download, which means I should have a fully licensed product NOT a trial for the next 30 days.

I still have NO serial numbers. If I can't get them in the next 24 hours I will be cancelling my order & getting a refund.

Nigel... I found the problem with the Encore download... Bill Gates was to blame. Anyhow I think The whole concept of delaying the serial numbers was to get the downloads happening now so come the middle of the month their server is not maxed out. We will get our serials when the main product ships I guess.

But don't bother with Encore and OnLocation... they do NOT have the trial option so you can't use it without a serial number. And of course the version of Premiere CS3 does not have anything MPEG enabled... including HDV. So really its just another public beta and going by the bugs I am finding it really hasn't improved.

Well I can't see ANY reason why they couldn't have posted the Serial Numbers along with the Online Download form. Afterall they must have them prepared for the box product release later this month.

I paid for a full version. I want the serial numbers now, or the order gets cancelled.

                          NigelS

PS could you explain in what way Bill Gates was to blame? Was it a permissions problem on Vista?

That's up to you, of course, but it seems kind of silly. I find it perfectly normal to hold back serial numbers until the boxed product actually starts shipping.

Box versions shipped yesterday. And I disagree, when you purchase online and are charged, you should have your serial number when you download otherise its nothing more than a PAID trial.

Well, if boxed versions started shipping (to customers, not just to retailers) yesterday, and you can't get a serial number today, then I agree you have a legitimate gripe.

Could you imagine working in Customer Service when they can't offer help, ie, serial numbers.
The only way I can use CS3 with my HD footage, is to transfer from 1.5.1. And for 30 days only ....
This is a very expensive DV editing/authoring program for which I have no use for.
Does anyone know of any other Software that will offer the capability to burn BD-R so I can use my PS3?

Nothing silly about it. Electronic download is an alternative form of delivery, if they're not prepared to release serial numbers until boxed product ships to customers, then they shouldn't make downloads available until then.

I take it they won't be charging my credit card for the order until then. No, I thought not.

Apparently the Encore & OnLocation won't even install as a trial, so I don't think Adobe have a leg to stand on.

Looks like I shall have to rely on the pirates to supply me with a keygen to get the serial numbers Adobe won't give me.

That's one viewpoint. But I can also understand if, as was suggested in another post, they release the download early to those who've already purchased in order to avoid bandwidth issues when the general release is made.

                                                                  NigelS does NOT condone piracy.

NigelS paid £209 for this product that he cannot currently use. This is, I suspect considerably more than the US equivalent of the upgrade price.

NigelS was making a sarcastic remark, based on the fact that pirates seem to do considerably better than Adobe's legal & honest customers.

Sarcasm is a fine form of humor, but it helps us who only have your words to read if you add a smiley of some sort to convey the real intent of the remark.

It does seem every time software (not just Adobe's) is released, the pirates seem to enjoy all of the fruits and benefits while us paying customers struggle and wait when we choose to play and pay by the rules. Sarcasm definitely keeps me sane from time to time as well.

                                                                              > could you explain in what way Bill Gates was to blame?

I had even set it to download to a 'D' firewire drive but it seemed Bill wanted to download it to 'C' THEN move it to 'D' once complete. BUT NO - he didn't bother to tell me 'C' was full and downloaded as much as he could, then moved it to 'D' and gayfully informed me my download had successfully completed!

                                                                              > Was it a permissions problem on Vista?
