    Open Browser Window Problems

    jt643
      I am using the built-in functionality in DW to open a new browser window from text. I have multiple links on my page that each open a different media file. I am using the SAME window name so that the user does not have to have multiple windows open in case they want to view or listen to all of the media files on the page.

      The page works great and loads whichever media file I click in a new browser. HOWEVER, when I close out of that window, after about a minute, the next media file automatically pops up in a new window and begins to play!!!

      HELP!!!

          > HOWEVER, when I close out of that window

          so you click a link, it opens a new window named "media"
          Then you close the media window.
          then you click another link, and a new window named media is opened.

          is that what's happening? It's what is supposed to happen.

            One additional item...my page gains a number sign after I close out of my initial media window...could that be an indication of what is causing my issue?

            i.e. mypage.com/downloads

            then

            mypage.com/downloads#

              example.com/downloads#

              is because of the way you made the link.

              as-is:
              Click <strong><a href="#"
              onclick="MM_openBrWindow('shepherds.html','media','width=600,height=465')">h
              ere<
              /a></strong> to play.<br />

              change to this:
              Click <strong><a href="javascript:;"
              onclick="MM_openBrWindow('shepherds.html','media','width=600,height=465')">h
              ere<
              /a></strong> to play.<br />

              or better:
              Click <strong><a href="shepherds.html" target="media"
              onclick="MM_openBrWindow('shepherds.html','media','width=600,height=465');
              return false">here<
              /a></strong> to play.<br />

              Note the ; return false added after the js event handler, to prevent the
              href link from being followed if JavaScript is active.

              If JavaScript is not active, the href link is used.

                This is great! Thanks for taking the time. While I check to see if that resolves it, I figured I would answer your question to provide clarity.

                I click the link and the file opens in a window called 'media.' Everything works great in that window. Then, when I close 'media' and navigate back to the original page where I first clicked the link, the 'media' window opens again with the next file - WITHOUT me clicking anything! It just keeps popping up a new window as long as the page with all the media links is still open.

                I hope this provides clarification. I will try your code. Thanks again.

                    I've been unable to replicate the trouble you have described, not in IE
                    or FF. Can you tell me the specific links I ought to click?

                      how i reproduce the issue is that i click the first 'here' link on the "Shepherds' Conference" video. The media window opens, and everything works great. When i close the window, the next media file (Part 1 mp3) opens after about a minute or two automatically - nothing clicked - as long as that particular page is open.

                      I hope this helps.

                        Do you mean use the Back button to return to the downloads page?

                        which page? the downloads page?

                        I did use the BAck button to return from the media page to the downloads
                        page, waited, and nothing else opened, in FF.
