You shouldn't have any image loss on the screen if you export your 16:9 project as a 16:9 export. What makes you think you will?
I don't have any problems exporting in 16:9 - I just want to export the 16:9 picture into a 4:3 video with letterbox bars on the top and bottom. I just don't know how to do this. When I open a new project with 4:3 specs and I use 16:9 footage in the timeline, it automatically zooms in the picture of the 16:9 to fit into the 4:3 project. I want to eliminate this zoom by having a letterbox format wh ich I'm having trouble achieving.

If you export as 16:9 the DVD player will add the letterbox automatically if you have a 4:3 screen and things set up properly.

I'm just wondering why you'd want to do this. David's post covers it above. It should be unnecessary.
