This is the first hint of artificial intelligence in CS4. NOTHING has changed and yet the program decides it is time to change behavior. Be very careful to not change anything again, you may lose a very valuable piece of software.
I'm having this exact problem. Nightmare.
I reinstalled and no luck.
Anyone got any ideas at all???
ALSO, Why the hell didn't Adobe just include Media Encoder as an OPTION not as your ONLY WORKFLOW?? Crazy people. It was so good to be able to just export a single frame, audio file or video file quickly and easily. Grrrrrrrr.
The only idea I have is that it must be OE. A bit difficult to say with certainty, since everything in the question is utterly vague.
I have this same issue. I could export one day and the export window opened fine I could select my media option and then the encoder would start but now nothing. I can't even view the window to choose a media option it is just frozen and I have to close the program.
If you have a question, either supply details or wait for a mind-reader to come along.

I did answer some of the questions.
I switched back to an older monitor and that seems to have fixed it at the moment. But it should have worked with the newer monitor.
Thank you Kevin that is exactly what is happening.
Putting back the older second monitor started it working again.
That is indicative of a video driver problem, however without relevant details it is only guessing.
