1. Re: CS4 crashes on capture HDV
(tlc51369) Oct 23, 2008 11:34 AM (in response to therayman)Are all your drivers updated?
Can you capture any other format? -
2. Re: CS4 crashes on capture HDV
JSS1138 Oct 23, 2008 11:47 AM (in response to therayman)CS4 is approved for Vista 64, but not XP64. Perhaps that's a source for examination. -

therayman Oct 23, 2008 12:12 PM (in response to therayman)The same thing happens if I try to capture SDV shot on the same camera a Sony V1. Yes the drivers are all the latest versions. I did a clean install and updated all the drivers prior to installing CS4. Vista? Perhaps an upgrade is required but its not something I really want to do yet. Nothing else in CS4 has caused a problem. My other XP x64 systems all work perfectly. I think I will stick to CS3 for capture and then edit and composit in CS4. -

Harm Millaard Oct 23, 2008 12:46 PM (in response to therayman)Did you happen to have CS3 installed and then installed CS4?
Back in the old days I had mysterious behavior when installing CS3 with CS2 still installed. This mysterious behavior was caused by a registry entry still pointing to CS2 instead of being updated to CS3. To solve it took some time looking at various registry keys to find the culprit, but adjusting them by hand solved the issues for me. Unfortunately, I can't exactly remember which keys they were, but that might be something to look at. -

therayman Oct 23, 2008 1:20 PM (in response to therayman)I did the same thing way back then but no it was a clean install. I tried cleaning up the registry too. Premier CS3 and 4 seem to run quite happily on the same machine. You can run them both at the same time if you have more than one audio card. I find I can even copy and paste between them. -

Harm Millaard Oct 23, 2008 1:34 PM (in response to therayman)Blue screens usually point to severe incompatibilities between OS, IRQ's, drivers, etc. beyond a single application. Try to find which processes are running with Process Explorer and look for memory or IRQ activity with Process Monitor. Have a look at The Case of the Unexplained to help you along. Here are the analytic tools required: Sysinternal Utilities -

Curt Wrigley Oct 23, 2008 1:35 PM (in response to therayman)XP64 is not supported. -
8. Re: CS4 crashes on capture HDV
Harm Millaard Oct 23, 2008 1:46 PM (in response to therayman)Correct, but unofficially Adobe reps and beta testers have confirmed that it works without problems, even at IBC. Even if there is a slight problem, it should not lead to blue screens. Maybe a hanged application, an error message, or other non responsive behavior, but not a blue screen. Blue screens are often related to PSU, cooling and complex interrelationships between processes. BTW Ray, check your PSU, since it is over two years old, for capacitor aging problems. It is not unheard of. You can use something like Speedfan to check it on output voltages and to check on temperatures. -

therayman Oct 23, 2008 2:53 PM (in response to therayman)Speedfan shows no problem on the PSU but a couple of the drives are not very fit. They have been busy. I will swap them out and see if that solves the problem -

Im surprised an Adobe person would tell you this. of course "adobe rep" could pretty much mean anyone. Adobe doesnt support it. If there were no differences between xp64 and vista 64, they would.
