Deciding on what Computer to buy.  Can you look at these specs

    Level 1
      Hello

Will be purhasing CS4 and need to get a new computer. My client picked this one. Note that I only expect to be editing internet video. Initally it will be SD, but I assume down the road it might be HD -- but internet quality HD. In other words this is not for editing a movie. Mainly streaming video, but there is always a possibility the content might be repurposed for a HD TV commercial. In any case the content will never be seen in a big screen movie theater.

With all that said, here's a link to the system he selected. I would prefer he spend much less, but well, would like your feedback.

I also noted he is considering a 64 bit system. Is that a good idea? This system will mainly be dedicated for video editing.

      Thanks

Exorbitant pricing. Way too costly. Look at building it yourself and you will save $K's.

And much, much more than your modest requirements seem to call for.

            Liquid cooling?

Take Harm's advice if you are an expert on building the latest computers. If you are not a hw geek, it is not a bad idea to pay a quality company to turnkey a good pc for you. Persoanlly, Id rather pay an extra $1000 than mess around troubleshooting the thing a week before I get it, and 2 months after. Do what you are good at. And let others do what they are good at.

That said; if you will be paying a premium for a turnkey system, make sure the vendor knows how to build systems for editing. If they dont know what you mean when you ask that, go elsewhere.

Edit; just noticed it a dell. In that case you do have to be an expert. Dell wont know how to properly build an editing pc.

I just have one question. Do you know EXACTLY why you are buying what you are buying? Can you identify every line item in that pdf file and tell me it's purpose?

Because from the look of it, there is enormous overkill in many areas, and some basic critical items aren't even listed.

And why Dell for God's sake?

My recent machine I just built and is WAY under that Dell price. While some things are not the same, you will save over $3k and be a lot better off.

                    HI Mark,

Thanks for that info. ANd yes the pricing is way better. (I've built my own computers before and as long as the specs are in line it's the best way to go.

I will forward your info to my client.

                    Much apprecated!
