Me again. I forgot to mention something even more frightening. After the program didn't fail to launch on the safe boot, I thought, I'll just use the safe boot method until they fix this bug. BIG MISTAKE!!! I tried the safe boot a second time and it refused my administrator's password. Including the Adobe's User account the Specialist had me set up for this elimination process. Then I tried to reboot and was STUCK in safe boot mode with the same result: no password recognition. I tried booting from my install disk to apply first aid, but again, it was STUCK in safe boot mode and wouldn't recognize the install disk. Finally, I shut the computer off, unplugged it for a minute or so and then rebooted and I'm back to normal.
When I think of the money I spent, and all the other crash related reports I've read on this forum, I'm very unhappy and thoroughly discouraged. I also bought Plug-in Suite 4 for Photoshop from onOne Software that worked well in CS3, but now Photoshop CS4 crashes on Save anytime I use their plugins. :-)
Sounds like you've got a system problem. CS4 runs fine on my Mac Pro. Try resetting PRAM when you start your computer and repair disk permissions once it's up and running. Also, be aware that many plug-ins are not yet compatible with CS4.
