Hello,

I have had so many problems trying to export an eight minute video that I created. I was hoping to finish it for the people I created it for tonight, so I could give it to them tomorrow, but all I have had is one problem after another with Premiere Pro CS4.

My latest problem is this error message that comes up nearly every time I try to work in Premiere CS4.

***************************************************************************

ImporterProcessServer.exe has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

***************************************************************************

One of my video files has no audio, I keep getting the error message above, and so on.

How is one supposed to get any work done with all these errors and problems?

Help would be appreciated.

Sherif Osman

First Post and I'm going to try to follow the guidelines I'm not the user of Premier, just the guy that was called to help fix it.  My operator is not comfortable with actually fixing the system and I am primarliy a hardware tech.

Same issue as many others and have not found a viable fix yet.

Faulting application importerprocessserver.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module imagerenderer.dll, version 4.2.1.0, fault address 0x000f9088.

We usualy capture from a Panasonic AJ-SD930 deck via Firewire directly to PremierPro

We don't get an error message with in Premier, it just hangs and asks to  send a crash report to Microsoft. I found the following in Event Viewer:

Faulting application importerprocessserver.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module imagerenderer.dll, version 4.2.1.0, fault address 0x000f9088.

Faulting application importerprocessserver.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module imagerenderer.dll, version 4.2.1.0, fault address 0x000f9088.

We were trying to open a project that was completed last week.  They wanted some small title edits, upon opening Premier and then the opening the project, it loads into the Project window, populates the timeline and seems fine.  If you try to do ANYTHING (any menu bar item such as file, edit, project) play a clip, click on anything, Premier Hangs and sets a Hang message in Event Viewer.  If we open Premier and create a new project it seems to work ok until you try to import any video that we have used countless times in the past.

As for existing troubleshooting, We've tried replacing the .dll as mentioned in this thred, restarted the system several times, checked for Adobe updates, moved the project to a different system (worked fine and we were able to comlete the job).  We were able to re-install Premier from disk and it worked fine for about a week and then the same issue croped up.

NO new software has been installed, or un-installed for that matter... I'm open to any suggestions but please keep in mind that I'm no Premier guru and thus why I am asking you

Thanks,

Fred

Fred,

From that long list of codecs installed, it appears that some serious cleaning may be required. All that stuff from Nero, Hauppage, Xvid, and the whole rest could easily be the cause of these problems. By far the easiest way is a complete reformat and clean install of Windows and programs.

I have the CS4 Master Collection, Premiere was working fine for two years, then I got the above message when starting Premiere. The crash does not even appear in event viewer, so I have no idea if there is any other fault causing the problem.

Vista Ultimate 64 bit (up to date)

CS4 Master Collection (up to date)

8 Gb of RAM

Asus P5K motherboard

Q8600 CPU

5 hard drives... etc,

It is a really clean working machine without any nonsense. What is really distressing is that this appeared out of nowhere two days ago, there were no recent updates that could even give a glimmer of hope what caused the problem.

Mr. Milaard,

I thought it looked fishy to say the least.  I would love to format / reload but the system is attached to the network and the corp IT guys would have kittens.  Is there a list of codecs that I could reference to help me determine which ones to keep?  Do you have a recommended method of just removing / disabling the offending codecs?

Thanks for taking time to help with this, I'm in way above my head when it comes to software...doesn't help that I'm short either

Fred,

The corporate IT guys will probably have a standard streamlined installation DVD (worth asking them) to make sure you can't foul up the installation or the network. Then it is a simple matter of running that DVD and as the last step to install the MC, assuming not every user has access to the MC. Remember to de-activate the MC before starting this.

My guess is that the corporate IT guys would love it if you do a fresh install using their streamlined DVD.

Un-install, re-install solved it, but still doesn't answer why it started.

Mr. Millaard,

They do have an image but not for this system. It was purchased as a turnkey setup and they don't support it but it does reside on the network, thus complicating the format / reload option greatly.  It's a custom built system purchased from a vendor, while they sent all the discs for reinstall it will be difficult at best to get IT to let me reinstall.

I will start trying to figure out how to weed out some of the codecs you mentioned previously. I had reinstalled PP prior to seeking help but turned off all updates to Adobe..so far it's been stable.

I will also work with IT on the format / reload and I believe we can get it approved.  However will reloading the applications not also re-install the codecs? We use Nero for burning / copying obviously and Hauppauge is a live tv card for an in house advertising program for things like football games.  I know it's apples and oranges but CS2 worked fine with the same Hauppauge install and I think the same Nero as well...

Sorry to be such a dunce when it comes to all this, I appreciate your patience!

Thanks,

Fred

Fred,

This is purely guessing from my side, but what has probably happened after your initial install of the MC is that you installed other software (Hauppage, Xvid or the like) that changed priorities or links to different codecs, that the ImporterProcess needs in a different order, thus causing the error message. By uninstalling and reinstalling you have corrected the priorities and order and links to the various codecs just as Adobe likes it. Nero usually is not that intrusive to cause this, but then it is wise to only install the Nero modules you really need, not the whole bloated package.

Good to hear that reinstalling solved your problem. Happy editing.

Hi Harm Millaard,

Thanks, I'll do that when I have time.

In the meanwhile, I found a fix for my main problem (no audio on one of my video clips).

My opening that had a '.wav' music clip and video played fine, but my camcorder video that is a 'mpg' file had no sound.

So I used a program to convert my 'mpg' video file into an '.avi' file and then the audio worked.

But I thought that Premiere Pro CS4 could play, edit and export 'mpg' files? I thought I read that somewhere. Am I wrong?

If so, is there a plugin that will enable Premiere Pro CS4 to play, edit and export 'mpg' files?

The problem is that the 'mpg' file is 261 MB and after converting it, the 'avi' file is 12.9 GB. Files of that size would eat up my external hard drive fast.

Is there a plugin that will enable Premiere Pro CS4 to play, edit and export 'mpg' files?

Thanks for the help,

Sherif Osman

Somewhat. Exporting MPEG is not an issue, but Premiere Pro is designed around certain professional/prosumer camera formats as far as editing goes. Some of them do use MPEG compression and will work - HDV for instance. But consumer cameras that use MPEG and record to hard drive, SD card or DVD do often cause troubles for Premiere.

General wisdom is to pair consumer cameras with consumer software, and if you want to use Premiere Pro, you may be better off with a better camera.

If you have a mpg and CS4 doesnt see the audio, you can try running it through TsRemux (avoids re encoding video too) Works for me. I can record SD or HD TV from my sat box onto a memory stick, run the ts through remux, rename it mpg and edit in CS4 - which is sweet. (just a shame a few stills will then crash it)

PROBLEM SOLVED....If anyone else is having this problem, here is what you can do.

Read the error message that comes up when "ImporterProcessServer" stops and make sure it is says this:

Fault Module Name: IPPMPEGDecoder.dll
  Fault Module Version: 4.0.0.0

If it is this file, here is how to solve the problem.

Do a system search in the Adobe folder of your Program Files and find every copy of that .DLL file. Ignore the one in the Premiere Pro CS4 folder because that one is obviously bad.

Find one in a different folder that is the same "Module Version" as the bad one in Premiere Pro (I did this by holding my mouse over the icon until it displayed the info). I found one in the Encore CS4 folder. Then simply copy and paste this one into your Premiere Pro folder and overwrite the bad one.

And it's fixed. I couldn't believe it worked!

This might not work for everybody, but it worked for me. And I didn't have to uninstall my Suite or my OS or anything!

BE CAREFUL!!! I tried this with another .DLL file that was corrupted, and it caused the program to crash. Thankfully I copied the original bad file so I could replace it in case the copy didn't work. Sometimes there is more to a DLL file that isn't revealed in the details. Even if it looks like the same file, it might not be, so always keep a copy of the original before you replace it with something so you can undo it if it doesn't work.

FIX FIX FIX FIX FIX FIX

Felt like I need to post this because I just found away to get past both things. (FOR VISTA USERS, i'm on 32 Bit)

For getting pass "ImporterProcessServer.exe" Follow these steps. Start> Control Panel> System and Maintenance> System> Change Settinges (to the bottom right)> Advanced> Under "Preformance" hit "Settings..."> Data Execution Prevention> "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:"> Hit "Add..."

Now once in there get to the Adobe Folder. OS(C:)> Program Files> Adobe> Adobe Premier Pro CS4> and you are going to "Add..." all the .exe in that folder for good mesaure.

For get pass the .dll's and the sort, Follow these steps. Find the .dll location that cause the crash in the "Crash Data" report. Once you find it you are going to rename it to something other than that and there you go.

Sorry If i'm not that good at explaining, not really a tech. guy, but just had to post for everyong out there.

P.S. Shoutout to "Xenobase" at "www.xylio.com" Forums for the .dll change. And "Guy7545" and "www.avforums.com" Forums for the DEP Fix.

Good Luck

Thank you for taking the time to report. Nice touch giving the attributes to those, who helped you too.

I'll be linking to this thread for someone in the Adobe PE forum, with what I believe to be the same issue.

Appreciated,

Hunt

We have recently been getting this error on all of our editing systems. They all have different hardware + two have 64 bit Vista and one has XP. It was just starting to annoy us... so I looked on the forum and found this thread. When Premiere crashes next time, We'll take note of the evil DLL and do the fix.

Thanks All
