    Premiere elements 4

I am new to this,Wanted ti impress my wife by trying to get some video while we went on vacation, but unfortunately am unable to do anything. This is due after loading Premiere Elements 4.0,buying a new graphics c and additional memory (3GB of RAM). Dell E521 Dimension. Problems is unable to see video files once imported from camcorder ( Panasonic SDR-H18). Files was in MOD ext, renaming it to .MPG. But everytime I clicked on this file, I get dreaded blue screen with following message:
      STOP: 0X0000008E
nv4_disp.dll_ address BFC70385 base at BF9D5000. Very plain english, as you can see. Can someone help me to save my reputation as a knowledgeable geek:-).
Graphics card is from eGeForce 8600 GTS.

Some folks have issues with MOD files. Best bet is to convert them to DV-AVI either using the software that came with the cam or using the freeware MPEG_Streamclip. The FAQ discusses MPEG_Streamclip:
