Where is this MP3 file from? Did you purchase it from a site like iTunes?
Have you tried converting the file to a WAV file using the free Audacity audio editor?
I experienced the same problem last week when i added several MP3 files. Just one of them was 'silent'.
I simply deleted it in PRE(7) and added it again, this time it worked fine without any other change.
MP3's are strange beasts. Some work fine, while others, that look and test the same just do not play in Adobe products. I've never found the reason, or even what to look for within the files, that do not work.
As Steve points out, a conversion to PCM/WAV, ideally 48KHz 16-bit *should* work 100% of the time. In my workflow, every MP3 source file is converted, prior to Import. I do a batch conversion on all that will be used. Never had one, when converted to PCM/WAV fail to work. Sometimes I do get lazy, when using tiny MP3 SFX files, but those always seem to work - it's the MP3 files that are hit-or-miss.
Do you see the waveform for this clip on timeline?
when you play any other clip, do you hear audio,
try reimport of the same mp3 again and see if it fixes the problem.
Maybe it is protected?

Ditto. I've used MP3's, and sometimes (most of the time?) they work but sometimes they just don't. Or they work fine until you get halfway through your project, and then stop working.
I've *never* had a problem with WAV files.
