When I used Prem. 3 I was able to split the clips when I downloaded off the camera so I had a sceneline of separate clips. This was so much easier to edit and work on. In my new Prem 7 I get one long clip of 10 minutes or so and I find it very difficult to "fine tune" the video i.e. cut out a cough or sneeze etc. I am downloading in standard from my HDV camera at the moment. Surely I can set the capture to split the clips as I did in Prem. 3. Am I missing something?
You should have the option of splitting the clip by content as you capture HDV. Have you selected that option? Otherwise, HDV is a good, free alternative capture utility that will split by content and timecode, I believe, and its files are perfectly compatible with Premiere Elements.
In Premiere Element 7 there is the option to split the scenes. Press F5
Go an d check out the right side. There is the option of Split scene. However by default " By content" is selected. You can change the option to "Timecode" by clicking on it. Earlier Timecode was selected by default
