A few of the new Canon AVCHD camcorders are not seen by PE7. Download the AVCHD files to your computer using the software that came with the camcorder and then use Add Media to import them into PE7.
I'm not sure that the AVCHD codec is activated in the trial version for copyright issues...
Ok, thanks for the fast reply. I bought the software and I am still waiting for the activation key. Perhaps that will help. I have one more question please. My computer is bit older I have only 1.8ghz and 2gig of ram and the entire process is very, very sluggish.
Do I really have to run out and get the new beast or are there other solution such as converting the files into something not so power hungry? I want to start making video and post them on my website later on. (cooking sessions from my home) Whats the best way to go about this? I have adobe flash, ps3 and dw. I am sorry for all this questions but this is my first step into the digital video world.

I will say that your computer is really going to struggle with those files.
You will not be able to work with AVCHD with your processor. Take a look at some of these workarounds that Adobe suggest for converting to an intermediate codec:
You may also want to look at AVCHD Upshift http://www.newbluefx.com/avchd-upshift.html however even if you convert to HDV you will still struggle with your processor.
If your final export will be to standard definition I would advice you to convert the clips to DV-AVI before bringing them into PE7... ie work in standard definition format.
Thank you very much for all that help. I will have a look at it.
I actually just got done with my first kitchen session this time I show how to make some great crab cakes. So once I get this format thing going I will show you all a copy. - I just can what great fun!
If you should have more advice please keep it coming this absolutely helps.
