The preferences you set will apply to all future projects, Paul.
Thanks Steve, that is what I thought. It just wasn't at all clear since you can't get to any menus until you load a project.
It isn't just PRE that does this kind of nonsense (co-mingling application settings with document/project settings).
MS Office is famous for this, as well. For example, in Excel 2003 if you don't have a document open, you can't change global settings like Default File Location.
In an ideal world (i.e. a world that *I* was in charge of), application settings would have their own window that you could get to regardless of what was/wasn't open. Until such time as I'm made Supreme Ruler of Adobe and Microsoft - or their developers finally figure out the difference between an application and a document, you just have to live with opening something - anything! - to get to application-level settings. :)
Hah, I have long mourned that the software vendors never consult me either. Oh well ;)
In PE7, didn't this come about because they added that stupid opening screen that serves no real purpose other than to try to get you to subscribe to their online services? I haven't looked at PE3 for a while, but I think when you started the program you ended up at the main screen and could change any non-project-specific settings.
It's always been that way Paul.
