How to Set the In - Out Clip Bar, or whatever it's called.

Do this in timeline view in version 3.

Move the CTI to a start point. Click on a blank area in the Properties panel. Press I, for In. Move the CTI farther to the right. Click on a blank area in the Properties panel. Press O, for Out. Now that should give you another bar on the ruler besides the work area bar.

Now double-click on a clip in the media bin so the clip preview opens up. Right-click in the preview monitor and select "overlay" from the pop-up menu. Now another window opens with some more options about how you want to fit the clip into the area marked off by the In-Out clip bar.

Somebody might find some use for that.

Somebody certainly did... It is an efficient way to replace a part of the clips on the timeline with another clip, precisely where and how long you want to have it. The tip works the same in PREL 7.0, only the second window (after having selected Overlay) does not appear. Set the In Point in the Preview Monitor, and that's where your new clip will start at the timeline. Great tip!

BTW: Once this In-Out-Clip-Bar has been set, you can move the left and right edges (the History Panel names them Sequence In and Sequence Out Points) and slide the bar itself: in the middle there's the same little icon the Work Area Bar also has.
