I usually start at the other end: design or describe the end-product
your really like to have.
Then find out what you need to make it work and if you need anything
extra like tools, or expertise.
Performance can be defined as many things. What exactly is the
"performance" you talk about? Speed? Capacity? Features?
Who is your target audience? What is their hardware and connection
From your description I think Flash or Director are both good options.
If you give some more info about what you want the games to be, I am
sure there are many experienced people here to help you on your way.
Also: dont be afraid to learn new things... its fun and rewarding, and
if you get the hang of coding, its actually not so difficult.
Thanks Richard for your answer and sorry for my poor description about what I wanted to ask.
Basically, I will design a platform game (Mario style ) for educational purpose, it is part of my master degree in educational technologies. For now, it will have only one level and the main character will have to deal with many obstacles (fast and accurate collision will be an issue) in his way (horizontal scrolling). Besides, some events will be triggered videos or animations (I have not decide,) to explain to the students the fundamentals I want to teach.
I already did something similar with Actionscript 3 but for a driving simulator (just a concept) I used XML for tiles, and scrolling was in x and y direction.
This new project will be available for many students, that’s why I want to do it in the best way.
When I said “performance” I wanted to say “speed”. For the driving simulator I got only 20 FPS. For the Platform game I want to get a least 30 FPS. Checking the Web, I found this Director example : http://www.noisecrime.com/develop/techdemo/d8/demos/tiler.html It made me reconsider Director for the project.
As you said to learn new things is wonderful that is why I am considering to learn advance Director concepts, and to make it funnier I will try javscript instead of lingo, if I choose Director. The same for Actionscript 3.
For both, I think, copyPixel would be a good option (speed, memory). However I have to del with collisions as I said before.
I hope to give you a better idea about what I want to do.
Thanks in advance
