I just ran into the same problem. I also have several PDF slideshows, but judging from the non response to your post dated July we may be alone in our admiration of this function.
I downloaded Reader 8.0 for now, but that doesn't help the folks I send the slideshows to who are now running Reader 9.0.
I downloaded a trial copy of Acrobat 9.0 to see if the PDF slideshow audio function had been moved there, but it also just runs the slides - no audio or video clips.
Does anyone know if this neat little program still exists somewhere in Adobe?
In Reader, ask them to go to the preferences for multimedia (legacy),
see if checking the box for playing dubbed audio makes a difference.
Thanks for the reply Mike.
I don't have Reader 9.0 loaded right now; I'm using 8.0, but I do have Acrobat 9.0 which is Reader PLUS I believe. The preference window looks pretty much the same as Readers.
I checked the dubbed audio as you suggested; it had no effect while running the pdf slideshow.
I was afraid you'd say that. Try this. Go to the Multimedia(legacy)
preference. Try setting the Preferred Media Player to Flash (if its set
to Quicktime) and to Quicktime (if its set to Flash)
I'd tried all 4 players early in the going but just tried them again - no audio. In the Help menu under plug-ins now says the multimedia.api is not loaded. A few minutes ago it said it was loaded. It looks like something is going a muck with the multimedia.api.
Did you ever get this working? I reverted back to Reader 8.0 and all is fine, although I've just got a new laptop with Reader 9.0 on it and the PDF slideshows will ust not play the audio, I've absolutely everything to overcome this. I just cannot understand what the difference is with 8.0 and 9.0 in playing embedded audio files. Really would appreciate if you have overcome this and let me know. thanks
