Try the Microsoft Installer cleanup tool. It can remove entries in the
registry related to your previous version of Reader and will allow you
to re-install 8.1 or install 9.0
I tried Windows Installer Cleanup, but that did not remove registry entries.
It may not have removed the registry entry you referred to, but it
should remove all Reader and/or Acrobat entries if you asked it to. Were
there any error message when you ran the Installer Cleanup?

It removes the registry entries related to the Windows installer
After it has run, you should be able to reinstall the old version,
then get rid of it cleanly (as the instructions say you must).
Cleaner just removed Adobe reader from the programs list in the configuration screen. I still can run Reader, it's still on the harddisk, it's still in the registry and I had no errorsa using Cleaner

Yes, that's exactly what it is supposed to do. It does NOT remove any

When do you get the message? What are you trying to install/uninstall
and what version?
Are you running as an administrator and is UAC switched on or off?
I'm trying to install Reader 9.0
I get the message almost and the end of the installation process
I'm running as administrator
UAC is OFF
I am also getting Problem in reinstalling Adobe reader 8.0 using XP Home edition, Please Help
