    Dreamweaver program help please

    lorna17
      Hi all

I am having trouble with the dreamweaver 8 program itself, when I try to view or edit an image in either fireworks or photoshop from dreamweaver i get this message:

      "unable to launch
      C;/PROGRA~1\cCorel\CORELP~1\PHOTOA~1.EXE.
Please be sure that this application exists and that there is enough memory to run it"

I have worked out that when I bought my computer it orginally came with paintshop pro - which i uninstalled as it was a demo, and that this file/program does not exist, but this was uninstalled before I put dreamweaver 8 on there.

I also have loads of memory

In dream weaver i have tried to change the preference of the editors to point to the location of fireworks but dreamweaver is still not recognising that the editor is pointing to a different location.

Is it a case that I have to re-install the program? or does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it.

      Regards
      Lorna

This link tells me that it's looking for a Corel program. Are you saying
that you have changed this in your PREFERENCES to point to some other
editor, and that change is not 'sticking'?

            Hi Murray,

Apart from a few odd files - the corel program .exe file does not exist -

In the preferences in the editor panel, I changed that corel file to point to this C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Photoshop.exe

by sticking - if you mean if i close the program and open it again - if it is pointing to the photoshop program then yes it is still there -

            - but then when you try to launch the fireworks or photoshop it gives the message that I stated earlier - and I am not sure why it is

Do you think its a glitch with dreamweaver and do you think i should re-install the program again?

            regards

What file extension did you associate this editor with?

What file extension does the file you are trying to edit from DW have?

                Hi Murray

                so for the late reply,

The file extension - is a .exe file so I would think it would open it, I think I will just install the program again and see what happens.

Wait - the file you are trying to open within DW with Photoshop/Fireworks is
                  an *.exe file?

                  <ahem>That won't work</ahem>

                    Hi Murray

I am not sure i understand, what file type is supposed to point to then?

when I was setting up the browsers - I pointed them to the .exe files of the browsers and that works - i take it then that it should be something else?

                      Oh, I think I misunderstood.

When you select a new file for the editor, you do point to an exe file.

I was asking about what the extension was for the file that you were trying
to edit within DW - JPG, or GIF, or what?

                          So -

                          1. You have reset your Editor for .jpg and .gif in your preferences
                          2. You select one of these kinds of files (.jpg or .gif) and elect to edit
                          it, and
                          3. You get an error message that references a totally different path than
                          you specified in #1 above?

                            Hi Murray

hoorah an doh! god do feel like homer simpson!- after a good nights sleep I came back .

I suddenly realised that I was looking at the file extensions in the wrong way.

I thought this was just listing the file extensions that it supports and where it says Fireworks i was just pointing where the fireworks program was . For some reason i didnt realise you could change the editor for each file extension.

I am glad you posted that check list

I am soooo sorry to have wasted your time and thank you once again for saving my life!

Its amazing what a good night sleep can do
