    Dual languages on one page

When I copy and paste from a PDF document which contains both English and Japanese text, only the English pastes correctly. The Japanese comes out as gobbledygook (random English characters and @ symbols). But I have no problems copying and pasting Japanese text from a purely Japanese PDF document. Reader seems to be able to recognize just one language font at a time. Is there any way to force Reader to read a English + Japanese document as a Japanese document so I can copy and paste the Japanese off of it? I'm using Adobe Reader 9.0.0 on XP
