No one has experienced this? ever?
I Too am Having a Similar Problem.
When I try to Download A PDF File In Windows XP SP3 either With Internet Explorer Ver 7 or Firefox Ver 3 A Blank Information Box with a OK Button Shows in the Blank open Page Window. It Will Not Download or Open the PDF File. This just Occured Just Recently After I installed Norton Internet Security Version 2009.
If I disable [ Turn Off ] the Norton Internet security 2009 Firewall The PDF Files Will Download and Display normally. Before I installed Norton internet security 2009 I Had Norton Antivirus and Zonealarm Firewall and PDFs Downloaded and Displayed Normally.
I assume therefore it has something to do with the New Norton Internet Security 2009 Firewall as that is the only Major Change I have made.
So far I have not been able to Determin the Exact problem in Norton Internet Security's Firewall or what settings I need to Change.
Does anyone have a Answer to this Problem?
I'm having a similar problem.
When trying to open PDF files from https sites I get the afore mentioned blank window. Files from non-secure sites open fine. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Reader 9 at least twice to no avail.
Bill C... Maybe this is my problem as well. Because I can open other PDF files across the web fine. But, this military https site is the one that won't open. ***However*** in the admin account it opens fine. It's the user account that it will not open from an https site.
Okay well I made some progress with my problem here today... By creating a new user account this allows access to that https website. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be as far as access goes so I don't have to create a new user account for each computer?
I finally got tired of messing with it and installed Firefox. That works fine.
This worked for me so it may be worth a try for you.
Open internet options in the TOOLS pull down menu and click the ADVANCED tab. Scroll down to SECURITY and unselect "DO NO SAVE ENCRYPTED FILES TO DISK"
It worked like a charm for me.
HAHA!!! Bill, your a little too late:) I got sick of waiting around and created a new user account and deleted the old one :) Oh well, Hope someone on here might get an answer to what may cause this unless what you said about the securtiy settings was the fix action... not too sure tho. Good luck all :) I'm out:)
I've been having the same problem with pdfs I create from either InDesign CS4 or Word docs through Word 2007 (both 97-2003 and 2007 docs), which are then accessed through links on our webpages. The IE browser window comes up blank displaying Done accompanied by a blank error dialogue box with a question mark and an OK button.
We're still diagnosing the why and hows, and whether outsiders accessing these links have the same problem, but I've found if you click the OK and refresh the browser a couple of times, and give it some time to load, the pdf shows eventually. Once it's cached it shows every time (at least for me).
Firefox doesn't seem to have the same problems so using that will help most people.
I'll write again when and if I have further info on this.
