It is possible to set up a PDF document so that the text area is centred when you view a single page in Reader but the inner margins are smaller than the outer margins when you view two pages side-by-side. (That is, the original margins of the document are preserved when you view side-by-side, but the margins are automatically made equal when the document is viewed as a single page.)
