Printing A4 pages on A3 paper

I have a pdf consisting of 4 A4 pages which I want to print on a single A3 sheet, the finished document being folded once. The difficulty is getting the page order right, so you pick the document up like a book and have the first page where you would expect the front cover to be. I can actually get that, but then the rest of the pages are in reverse order. If I look at the unfolded A3 on the side with the front cover, it's on the right, but then page 1 (ie second page in doc) is to its left, and pages 2 and 3 are on the other side. Without going back to my original ID CS3 book, how can I get page 3 to the left of the front cover and pages 1 and 2 on the other side?

Does this make sense? It's really hard to explain!

I've fiddled with all the print settings I can find and searched the net extensively, without finding anything useful.
