That is the full installation package, not an update.
Yes, I realize that and said as much, but it's listed as an update (and there usually IS an update version):
Adobe Reader 8.1.2 update
So where is it?
Have you tried opening Reader and using Help>Check for updates?
Yes, oddly, it shows an update that's significantly larger than even the main download itself, which seems impossible: 32.6MB.
the "update" is a full installer, not a patch.
I've installed the update 8.1.2, and restarted my computer.
.pdf docs can no longer be viewed in my browser (IE7), but insist on opening an Adobe Reader window. This is very frustrating, and leads to terrible clutter in my taskbar.
I have downloaded Adobe Reader 8.1.2 a number of times and each time I try to open I am told by Microsoft that there is a problem and it needs to shut down. I have even tried disabling my Norton 360, but I still am unable to get a successful installation. If I knew of this problem I would have stayed with 7. As it is I cannot reinstall version 7. At this point I am unable to read any pdf's I receive.
> As it is I cannot reinstall version 7.
Why not - what happens if you try?
Also, please open a new thread, as your problem is not related to the original question of this thread.
I am unable to find the Version 7 in the download section at Adobe. My real question is how to make Adobe 8.1.2 run.I do not necessarily want to run Version 7.
Why do I continually get this error. Is this GetPlus method of dowloading causing it? I never had such problems with an installation of Acrobat Reader before. I have edited my registry, removed all shreds of previous installations, turned off virus software and other security, it's not in my Control Panel "Add/Remove Software"... this has taken me hours and I get noplace. Even checked my file permissions... all looks good. Here's the actual message:
Error 1304.Error writing to file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\Adobe Reader\8.0\WS660EA2E2-80B-40fd-AB17-A65B88A1F672.html
A bug? Anyone else getting this? Thanks.
Tried installing 8.1.2 several times with no success - re-installed, re-booted, you name it.
Downloads, and appears to be complete, however, when attempting to launch, get the message "This program cannot display the webpage"?!. Refreshing doesnt work - after closing out this window, get the message "The license agreement was not accepted. The application will now quit". Anyone know what the problem is?
I've downloaded 8.1.2 and rebooted; cannot open pdf files or even the program itself. Still shows as 8.0 although download successful. I get the message from Windows that there is a problem and it needs to shut down. I'm using IE7 and Win XP if that makes a difference.
When I click "check updates" on a PDF file, I get an 36.4 MB 8.1.2 update. I have version 8.1.1. I went to downloads and I found this patch,
File InformationProduct Adobe Reader
File Name readstep2.html
File Size 836KB
Proceed to Download
This would be this correct patch for version 8.1.1?
Bill, check that Internet Explorer is working properly and connected
to the system. Try doing Start > RUN and type a URL like
Here in the UK I have EXACTLY the same problem. No support from Adobe, as the product is a free download. No way of getting back to v.7 either. I am now locked out of pdfs completely. Very frustrating. Has ANYONE out there got a solution for us?
> No way of getting back to v.7 either.
What is the problem?
>Here in the UK I have EXACTLY the same problem.
Ok, the same problem seems to be "What is the purpose of there
appearing to be an update version of 8.1.2 but it merely leading to
the full-blown download?" -- but what exactly is the PROBLEM? Can'
you just install it anyway?

Everytime I try to install Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 it gives me an error that it cannot install the reader towards the end of the install and tells me to contact my support. The error it gives me is the following:
Error 1714. The older version of Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.
Currently, there is no Acrobat Reader installed in my PC
I loaded 8.1.2 and now cannot open any exe. or pdf fixed files. The error message reads "......Cannot open because version not supported or file damaged.......". Cannot even open items in the control panel so I cannot go back to version 7.
Any ideas on how to fix.
Solution 2: Worked for me. Check out this link
I tired your suggestion Karla but the problem that I am having is that it downloads it without giving me an option to save it. Also, when it downloads it says it has a newer version already installed and the installation will cancel. Very frustrating!
Sorry the fix did not work for you hexvera. I thought I would post it just in case it would help someone. I spent 3 days figuring out a fix. I hope you have had some success. Take care,
No worries Karla, I am so frustrated that I loaded another pdf reader and that seems to work, thanks for the help anyway.
