no, you can remove the older versions
In my experience you can safely remove ALL of the old versions and then install 8.1.2 from scratch. When I say this I do mean a "clean" install of the new version. There is virtually nothing in the old ones that you would want to keep. This assumes you ae using Windows XP SP2 and do not have ANY anti-virus, spam/spy/mal-ware programs running when you do both the complete uninstall and install of 8.1.2. This is very important in my opinion. Also, keep in mind that simply deleting folders is not the answer-use the uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs to start with.
If you intend to redownload Reader 8.1.2-make absolutely certain that you DO NOT check the add-on feature box. The plain 22+ Meg file is fine.
