Also, I attempted to install Reader 8.1.2, but kept getting the following error message:
"Error 1714: The older version of Adobe Reader 8.1.2 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."
OK, I solved this by going to Microsoft and downloading "Windows Install Clean Up". Installed it and removed Reader, re-booted, then installed Reader 8.1.2.
I am having the same problem as number three. I can not romeove Adobe 8.1 and it is not working . I have not had this problem before. I get the patch message also. I thought I could remove and then add new program, but no luck. Can someone help me. I am not a computer wize. Sorry but I need simple steps.
Look at my solution just above your post. Go here:
Scroll to the bottom of the page for the download link, and download it to your desktop. The link looks like this:
Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now.
Double click the icon that is on your desktop to install it. Startt eh program through "start", then "Programs".
Find Adobe reader in the list, highlight it and click the "Remove" button.
Got to www.adobe.com and download Adobe Reader to your desktop, and install it. You should be good to go.
When I print no words appear just blank lines without no writing. What do I do?
Thanks Tim for your post and solution.
I was having exactly the same problems, saw in another post the solution but was unsure of whether to do it or not. Then I saw your post and went ahead and did the uninstall with Windows clean up, reinstalled Adobe and voila! Everything is right as rain again.
This glitch was really interfering with my work. As a grad student I use PDF files very frequently. I'm so glad it's working again!
I haven't a clue, but have you considered using the uninstall and redownload Tim's described?
You're welcome, it was really frustrating me also.
What is wrong with Adobe 8.1.1 and 8.1.2 with WindowsXP. You can't update or remove the old version!!!!! Have used Adobe for years (decades - it seems) - w/o problems. ADOBE needs to make a big change - somewhere. WK - NY.
Delete Reader 8.x.x.
After restart install Reader 8.1.2
I did it succesfully,
