Not sure this is an answer as much as a place to start. I am sure you have already Googled for the error and have likely seen this: http://curtismorley.com/2007/11/07/flex-2-flash-cs3-error-1085/
I assume of course that you have already looked for any XML in your own code that might be malformed. This leads me to suspect that you may be getting XML back from a WebService which perhaps could be malformed.
Try checking any XML you are getting back from a WebService call with the W3C XML validator or tool of your choice.
