Does it work under a different user acount?
Have you repaired disk permissions?
The behavior is the same under all user accounts - Adobe Reader doesn't even get to the splash screen before crashing. Repairing disk permissions found two minor issues that don't appear to be related to Adobe Reader: one with a system log file and the other with a Shockwave preferences file. Fixing those permission issues has not resolved the problem.
I am having a very similar problem, with a few wrinkles.
Adobe Reader 8.1.2 works fine under the root user, and also under another non-admin user.
Other users the same problem, Adobe Reader crashes after launch.
I made a new user account with admin privileges, Reader crashes almost immediately after launch. I changed the account to a non-admin user, and it still crashed.
I have repaired permissions.
Very strange problem.
MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.2, 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM.
Same kit/OS as larry
Installer for 8.1.2 crashes at the "beyond adobe reader" option window
Tried lots including re-downloading installer and trashing anything with adobe reader connection.
am I missing something obvious?
Have now reinstalled Leopard and same problem
Perhaps this bug in 8.1.2 depends on previous application installations - hence different symptons for each of us.
Have had problems previously upgrading Reader on wife's iMac.
Will reinstall from base install disks now - what a waste of time!
Now have 8.1.2 installed and the same problem as everyone else!
Have contacted Adobe direct
same as above. I have Macintosh G5 dual 1.8, tons of ram, Mac OS 10.4.11. Upgraded from Adobe reader 7.0.7 - downloaded again, repaired permissions, went through various permutations etc. still crashes shortly after start up.
Using Mac 10.5.2 and the latest Adobe Reader for Mac. When I open up a PDF doc I get the beach ball rotation and then crash before I can print or move the page. I have had to purchase PGFpen to be able to read PDF files. I have removed the older version of Adobe Reader. Any suggestions.
