You may want to take a look at this FAQ:
http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin Simon ATS, "11.1-- My PDF icons have taken over other icons on my computer, or vice-versa. How do I change file associations?" #, 31 Aug 2005 5:32 am
By the way, Acrobat is a paid program which includes a lot of features that the free Reader does not have. So you don't "upgrade" from Acrobat to Reader.
Yes, I know Acrobat is not the same as Reader. I mis-spoke. To clarify, I have Adobe Elements that included Reader 6. After constant requests to "upgrade" to Reader 8, I did so. Now, I cannot open any pdf files unless Reader 8 is already open and I select the file within Reader. I cannot change the file association for pdf files - when I try to select an app to open with, nothing happens and nothing changes. I tried "repair installation" under help in Reacer 8 and again, nothing happens. Installation of Reader 8 appears to have deleted or overwritten Reader 6.
This seems to be similar to another post here about inability to open pdfs with Reader 8.
I'm still looking for help. Thanks
I have read that upgrading the Reader component of elements is known
to cause problems.
