I have been receiving the same messages and have tried removing and re-installing 8.1.2 but still receive the same message. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I removed the 8.1.2 and re-installed 7.0.9 and it is working fine.
I followed Anthonys advice with identical results.
HI! You guy have solved the exact problem I'm having with Adobe Reader 8.1.2. I have installed and uninstalled 8.1 and 8.1.2 because of "Invalid plug-in detected" and then the same error message 00000008 click to terminate.
Now, HOW CAN I GET ADOBE READER 7.0.9 BACK AND REINSTALL IT.

Go to download Adobe Reader. Click on 'Different language or operating system?'. Make choices for your system and click on 'Continue'. A second step box will appear at the bottom of the screen. Mark the radio button for 7.0.9 and click on 'Download Adobe Reader'.
You should be good to go.
