I have the same problem, error message comes when Adobe Reader 9 opens, states that can't open attachment file because it is not properly decoded. Yet when I switch computers and use Adobe 7.0 the attachment opens fine. I use Firefox for browser on both systems, for email I use Yahoo mail, Window's XP for system with Adobe 9, and Vista on the other system.
Thanks for the reply, Kathy. My problem, however, is only with email attachments. When I double-click them, I get a window stating succinctly "Application not found." If I actually open the Adobe Reader 9 program, I can browse to that same file and it will open successfully. Your difficulty, though, makes me think there's a glitch in Version 9...wish I'd never upgraded! I use Firefox as well, and Microsoft Outlook for mail. My computer has only the Vista operating system. Perhaps someone will read these messages and find answers for us both. Here's hoping!
looks like version 9 has more problem that 8.1.2
I have a problem opening pdf file attachments larger than 500K. I removed version 8 and installed version 9 from adobe.com and I still have the same problem. My OS is XP and I use either IE or Firefox; all with the same results.
I get an error message on files larger than 500K saying something about data contamination errors.
It sounds like something on your ISP is preventing you from getting
I just checked with ISP and they have a 20M limit. All of my problems in opening pdf files are pdf files between 500K and 5M in size.
I encountered the same problem and tried doing what Suzanne did by right clicking the file and saving it to the computer first and then opening it.
And then after double clicking the saved file windows prompted whether I want to open it with the newly installed Adobe reader 9.0 or with Microsoft Word. I chose the Adobe Reader 9.0 and clicked on the check box asking whether we always want to open this type of file using this program.
I managed to open the file and best of all is after that I was able to directly double click on the pdf email attachments to open it.
Seems like that we need to let windows associate the file type with the program first.
Hi I am having a similar problem I can not open any pdf file. even saved files that previously worked fine. I tried installing adobe reader 9 still nothing. Removed everything and reinstalled several times- Still the same message." the application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect' Any ideas?
Start with My Computer and go to Folder Options > File Types and scroll down to find the .PDF type and assign Acrobat 9 to be the default program and (if you need to) to "Open" that extension... you need to re-associate PDFs with Reader and it should start working the way you expect.
