Hi, I want to test the toner usage of various laser printers and have created a test pattern in AI to do it. It consists of several bars of 100% pure C, M, Y & K and represents average print coverage of 5% of the page. My problem is that although the file is saved as CMYK, when I send to the printers I don't get true pure CMYK. I found this out by chance when the M dev unit failed and the output had a faint patch of C in the same place! Also, when compared to the printers own internal CMYK test pattern my pdf pattern looks different.
My question is, how can I get a pdf to print true 100% CMYK on my laser printers. Any opinions would be gratefully accepted.
Make sure you are using the PS drivers for those printers; they
probably have both PCL and PS drivers.
If you were printing from Acrobat you have control over color
management, but I am not sure what level of control you have in
Reader. You probably need to be sure the image data has no ICC profile
attached, to stop profile-to-profile conversion.
