I installed reader v9 on my vista ultra sp1 notebook with no problems so it works at least in my instance. But I removed it and installed version 8.12 which is working beautifully. I removed it because adobe removed the multiple documents in the same window feature from v9. You can give v8 a try. You can get v8 here:
You can always use Foxit Reader (www.foxitsoftware.com). It is only a 2.55MB download - a much smaller footprint than Adobe Reader. Some people love it - other don't but you can give it a try.
I am getting the exact same error:
I have a brand new HP xw8600 systems with 64 bit Vista Ultimate installed.
Via google I found a suggestion to turn on user account control.
I went to control panel > User Account > Turn User Account Control
checked the box and restarted the system. I ran the install as the administrator. It was a minor improvement. Instead of the error coming up immediately like it was, I got the OS confirmation asking if I wanted to install the program. I got the failure right have selecting "yes"
Running out of clues... any help?
I tried to extract the installer by running: "AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe -nos_ne" - same error
Same problem here. Been at this 2 hours and can not get Adobe Reader to install on my new Vista computer. It just goes from one error message to the next. Tried running as admin and tried about 10 other things I found via Google.
Would be great if Adobe eventually gets a reader that works on Vista.
