I just downloaded AdbeRdr90_en_US_Std.exe and extracted the contents("c:\temp\Adobe Reader\AdbeRdr90_en_US_Std.exe" -nos_o"Reader9" -nos_ne) to edit the AcroRead.msi file prior to installation. I used Orca to edit the msi file and followed steps in the deployment guide to prevent adobe updater installation. See below:
In the Component table, drop any row containing AdobeUpdater or Adobe_Updater
In the Feature table, drop any row containing AUM or Updater
In the FeatureComponents table, drop any row containing AUM or Updater
In the File table, drop any row containing AdobeUpdater or Adobe_Updater
In the ModuleComponents table, drop any row containing AdobeUpdater or Adobe_Updater
In the MsiFileHash table, drop any row containing AdobeUpdater
In the Registry table, drop any row containing Adobe_Updater
Upon testing the install I received the following popup error message.
Adobe Reader 9 Installer Information
Eror 2709. The specified Component name ('Adobe_Updater.exe.77F6876D_C3C1_484B_B77B_3052FB676E32') not found in Component table.
I click OK and it stops the installation. This is where the fun begins. I've deleted the old msi, redownloaded, uninstalled, kicked, etc. No matter what I do I always get this bloody error. I've searched the registry and find zero reference to it. Anyone else dealt with this and know how to fix? It would be muchly appreciated.
Nevermind. I ran Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility and it showed Reader 9 in the list. Once removed I attempted a reinstall and it now works. Time to start again with the msi edits. Maybe this will help someone else.
