You need to check your scanning software for the settings. Adobe Reader isn't involved (this is the Reader forum. You didn't mention what you had other than Adobe something).
If you have Acrobat, it would still be a setting in your scanning software but you could use Acrobat to rotate it where you want it after the fact.
I'm using reader 9.0. I found where acrobat has auto-rotate, but help for reader is very lacking.
You're only using Reader to VIEW the files. Reader has nothing to do with the scanning. By the time you view them in Reader, the damage is done.
I can use other programs to save them with the same orientation that they are scanned with. I don't know. I don't want to save them as jpeg because of the file size, and the other programs don't look as good.
Once again, Reader isn't doing anything except viewing the file. Your scanning software is creating the PDF. That would be where you want to look for the settings.
I have the same problem and going over the scanner manual didn't help. If there is a solution I can do this within software, that would be great to know.

Ok. This is the last I'll say it. Reader has nothing to do with scanning and you can not change the options from within Reader.
When you scan, what application do you have open before scanning? It's not Reader so, what is it?
Alex, I emailed the document to a friend of mine, along with some "variations" of the same documents. Here is what he sent me.
"Yep according to My products so far it looks correct, I just need to
test it on Adobe Reader 9, but full acrobat and adobe 8 works and looks
like you want it. I suspect 9 will also, if that's the case I suspect a
setting on your reader is not correct."
I actually scanned three documents, none of which read as top to bottom when scanned, and I put a little sticky on each in the same corner when scanned. None of the three when read on Reader had the sticky in the same corner of the page as all had been rotated.
What scanner are you using Alex?
grafitti, I am scanning from a HP Photosmart C5280. I open the HP solutions box to scan. It gives me the options to scan to different types of files. When the file is saved, it shows as an "Adobe Acrobat Document".
I have searched and searched HP's info, and had long talks with them, and we cannot find any type of auto rotate in this scanners programming. The only rotate option we can find is to rotate or flip a preview, but they assure me that what I see in the preview boxes is what is exported and the scanner no changes are made after that document is sent to the file.
I know reader is opening it, but could it being saved as an acrobat document have something to do with it since acrobat does have auto-rotate?
>since acrobat does have auto-rotate
Yes. Acrobat may have that but Acrobat is not being used. The PDF is a product of the scanning application, not of any Adobe product. Unless of course you are going through Acrobat to do your scanning then some of the scanner application settings can be overridden.
